Alfred C. Smith, passed away peacefully, at age 90, on November 24, 2016. Al was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his daughter Susan Warzecka (husband Walter), son Bradley (wife Barbara), granddaughter Elizabeth (husband Derek), brothers Thomas and Howard Smith and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Dee, and his parents Andrew and Alma.Al was born July 12, 1926 in East Chicago, Indiana. He graduated from East Chicago Roosevelt High School in 1944 and served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from Indiana University and attended graduate school at the University of California (Berkley). He and his wife, Dee, raised their children in Munster, Indiana.In 1952, Al began his career with Amsted Industries in Chicago and retired in 1988 as Director of Human Resources. He was involved in numerous professional societies. He was past President and Director of the Human Resource Association of Chicago and served on a number of education committees at the college level. In Munster, Indiana, he was one of the original members of the Kiwanis Club (1963) serving as President and Lt. Governor for the Calumet Division. He was active in the Munster High School Booster Club and the Little League baseball program.After retirement, Al and his wife spent winters in Sarasota, Florida. They moved to Rio Verde, Arizona five years ago to be close to family. While his first love was family, he was an avid golfer and loved his time spent with golfing buddies. Al was lifelong sports enthusiast, most particularly he was a diehard Indiana University and Chicago Cubs fan. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, December 9, 2016 at 7:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.
