Dr. Walter P. Urbanski, 82, of Munster, IN passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy (nee Galambos); daughter, Natalie (late Ted) Owles; sons, Steven (Julie), Matthew (Elizabeth) and David Urbanski; grandchildren, Lily, Andrew, Austin, Nathan, Madeline, Olivia and Camille; brothers, Henry and Mark Urbanski. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Stella Urbanski; sisters, Loraine Safin, Dolores Safin and Valerie Praski. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 3:00-8:00 pm with a prayer service at 3:30 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Saturday from 11:30 am-12:00 pm at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 12:00 pm at St. Thomas More Church, Munster, IN. Interment will be private. Walter was a graduate of Indiana University and Indiana University Medical School. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was the first Commanding Medical Officer in Vietnam. Walter practiced medicine, specializing in Obstetrics-Gynecology in the Calumet Area for 42 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Joseph Church Soup Kitchen or a charity of your choice in his memory would be appreciated.

Dr. Urbanski delivered my kids in the late 70's and early 80's. He was wonderful. While working at Macaroni Grill in FL, I became friends with his late son-in-law, Ted Owles(another wonderful person) and he would keep me up to date on him. He was very proud of his children, very humerous, and just a great person. He is missed.

Dr. Urbanski delivered me in 1967 and I was lucky enough to have him deliver my 2 boys in 1992 and 2000. Always a friend face, smile and a"Hello there" when he came on to a room. God speed Doc.

Dr. Urbanski delivered my first 2 children. At that time he had a little office in Highland just off Ridge Road. That was 46 years ago but I will never forget him.

Nancy, Natalie, Matthew, Steve, David, and family, I'm so very sorry to learn of Wally's passing. He was a wonderful man. I remember his sense of humor and how proud he was of all of you. I have very fond memories of being next door neighbors. I'll be thinking of and praying for all of you during this difficult time and beyond.

We have very fond memories visiting your home, the warm hospitality always given to us and some memorial fishing trips as well with Dr. Urbanski. My you find peace during this difficult time.
