Leona J. (nee Wilson) Bachan, age 75, of Munster, IN passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 57 years celebrated on July 2, 2017, Paul Bachan sharing a family of 20 siblings between them, 6 with Leona and 14 with Paul; brother, Raymond (Lula) Wilson, and three sisters, Sandra Garcia, Anita Wilson and Carole (Robert Vela) Yeager; and many nieces and nephews. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Raymond Wilson; brother, Kenneth Wilson; and niece, Melissa Garcia. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at KISH FUNERAL HOME 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. Interment will follow at Memory Lane Memorial Park Crown Point, IN. Visitation will be on Thursday, at the funeral home, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Leona worked at Indiana University when it was in East Chicago, IN following graduation from East Chicago Washington High School. She ultimately retired from Human Resources at Inland Steel Company in 1990 and was a Loaned Executive at Lake Area United Way, a Program Director at Jenny Craig’s, an Outside Sales Travel Consultant, a BFI Browning Ferris Industries Assistant, and Community Relations Coordinator of Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northern Indiana. As a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Leona participated in the Stephen Ministry Program, was past member of the Inland Steel’s 25 Year Women’s Club, a member of Friends of Hospice, Secretary of Friends & Family of Developmental Center for those with Special Needs and Board Member of ARC Northwest Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Leona’s name to Alzheimer’s & Dementia Services of Northwest Indiana 922 East Colfax South Bend, IN 46617.
