Doris Almaraz left a message on November 18, 2015:
Mrs. Blocher had a huge impact on my life and the lives of many of her students. Not only was she a great educator, but also an inspiring person. She went above and beyond her duties as a first grade teacher by working after normal school hours with me on my English. Flash forward sixteen years, and I still constantly find myself telling the story of the teacher that would point to pictures in the phonics book, and helped me pronounce words until I got them right; such sweet memories. I owe my educational and career successes to her; and she will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences and prayers to your family.

Mrs. Blocher inspired me to teach. Every time I use the word 'courteous' I think of her because it was the first Word of the Week in 1st grade. She helped me cope with my social and emotional recovery after my mothers aneurysm and that's something I'll never forget. Her everlasting kindness has continued to leave an impression on me since I was 7 and she will never be forgotten in my heart. Like the song she taught us that we sang every morning, "...and when it's all finished its time to say goodnight."

My sympathies go out to the family. Back in spring 1972 I student taught under Margot's supervision. She taught a split first/second grade class at Jefferson Elementary School in Hammond. She was a great teacher both for the students and student teachers. I learned some valuable teaching skills that I took with me and used everyday in my classrooms.Hold those fond memories close to your heart.

Wow...I'm at a loss. Mrs. Blocher was my first grade teacher and I don't think I can honestly give more credit to any other teacher I've had. She taught me some of the most important things and really made a huge impact in my life. I can only hope that my son will someday have a teacher as great, as influential.
