Marianne (nee Niehues) Scherer, age 88, of Munster, IN, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Rudolf Scherer; children, Rosemarie (Kevin) O’Keefe and Michael (Margaret) Scherer; grandchildren, Brianna (Rodney) Lake, Brendan O’Keefe and Brian (Lauren) Downing; and great grandson, Jack Lake. She was preceded in death, by her parents, Maria and Bernard Niehues; and sister, Louise (Arnold) Hiltrop. Funeral services will begin with prayers at 9:15 a.m., on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Kish Funeral Home 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. James the Less Catholic Church 9640 Kennedy Ave. Highland, IN, with Reverend Keith Virus, officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation will be on Friday, August 19, 2016 at the funeral home, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Marianne and Rudi celebrated 64 wonderful years of Marriage, this past Saturday, August 13th. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother and Oma. Marianne was a passionate and well versed cook, who enjoyed cooking for every holiday and special event that everyone looked forward too, with great anticipation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marianne’s name to Hospice of the Calumet and the American Cancer society.
