Michael Lis, age 45, passed away on Sunday, August 5, 2018 in Schererville, IN. He was born March 5, 1973 in Hammond, IN. Michael was a 1991 graduate of Pope John Paul II High School in Slidell, LA, and he worked in sales and property management for over 20 years. His daughters were the pride and joy of his life. Michael was a passionate, caring man that created profound impacts on many lives with his engaging personality. He was an avid open-wheel racing fan, and had an affection for Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He had many interests including aviation, golf, history, and music. Michael is survived by daughters, Anna and Katherine; parents, Maureen Leahy Matthews and Ronald (Carolyn) Lis; brothers, Daniel (Alyce) Lis and Jonathan Lis; sister, Mary (Jason) Kaplan; nieces and nephews, Mallory, Jonah, Rosaleigh, Bodhi, Emma, and Nathan Michael. Michael had a loving commitment with Amy Lucas. He was preceded in death by grandparents Gene and Mary Leahy and Edward and Adele Lis; and stepfather, Robert Matthews. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 525 N. Broad St, Griffith, IN. Interment will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Cemetery Hammond, IN. Visitation will be on Saturday, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. Mass.
