It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news that our mom, Phyllis Theresa Emrick, of East Chicago, Indiana passed away on Wednesday May 20, 2015 at the age of 85. Phyllis was filled with love for her family and friends, and they meant everything to her and she meant everything to them. Left to mourn and remember her are her daughter Renee (Paul) Wadas of Westville; IN, son Stephan (Karen) Emrick of Dyer, IN; sister in law Anne Weber, cousin Nancy Kraus, nieces Kathy Petyo, Patty McNulty, Kathy Koontz, Andrea Knesak, Karen Reilly, and Tressa Wierzbinski, nephews Michael Emrick, Jim Padjen, Bruce Wierzbinski, and Gary Weber, dear friend Karla Hanzi, and compassionate caregivers Anna Skrzyniecka and Mariola Mielnicki. Preceding her in death was her loving husband of 42 years, Steve (Foxy) Emrick, parents Theodosia and Frank Wierzbinski, brothers, Stanley, Charlie, John, and Emil, nephews Bob and Ken Wierzbinski, and close friend Reverend Joseph Niezgoda. Phyllis was born and raised in East Chicago, IN. She graduated from St. Stanislaus Grade School and Roosevelt High School. She then worked as a secretary at Washington High School and St. Stanislaus Church. Phyllis took great pleasure in meeting new people and enjoyed the friendships she made. She loved being a grandma and showered her grandchildren with love, humor, and affection. Always thinking of others before herself. She never missed an opportunity to tell someone to have a great day or to give them two thumbs up. Phyllis loved to travel, garden, shop, and watch the Cubs. Phyllis was an amazing, kind-hearted and generous person. She will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. We love you dearly, Phyllis. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 22, 2015, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue, Munster, IN 46321, with a prayer service at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will begin on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 9:15 am with prayers at the funeral home followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. James Catholic Church Highland IN, with burial taking place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Phyllis’ name SHARE Foundation Rolling Prairie, IN or to Hospice of the Calumet.
