Russell ‚ÄúRuss‚Äù G. Altherr, age 93, of Munster, IN passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alice Altherr; daughters, Debbie (Chris) Meloy, Lori (Jim) Hupy and Cherie (Neil) Planalp; grandchildren, Christen (Quinton), Katie (Kyle), Zachary (Emily), Matthew (Skylar) Michael (Megan) and Monica (Rob); great grandchildren, Drake, Ryleigh, Avery, Bennett, Micah, Levi, Julia, Cohen and Alaina. Russell was preceded in death by his parents, William G. and Julia Altherr.Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Ridge United Methodist Church 8607 Columbia Ave. Munster, IN with Reverend Michelle Knight officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation will be on Monday, October 29, 2019 at KISH FUNERAL HOME 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and again, at the church on Tuesday, from 9:30 a.m. until the 10:00 a.m. service.Russ was a Purdue University graduate in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of the Theta Xi Fraternity. He held 51 U.S. Patents in his 40 plus years of engineering and was a recipient of the Lifetime Sperry Award in Mechanical Engineering. Russ was a proud U.S. Army Veteran and member of the Lions, Masons, Chorus of the Dunes and Children of Abraham. He was a life long member of Ridge United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Russ‚Äô name to Ridge United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Calumet Area.
