Ana M. Escalante

Ana M. Escalante, 59, of Highland passed peacefully away on September 1, 2014. She was born in Gary, IN to the late Juan M. Martinez and her mother Georgina. Ana graduated from Emerson High School and received her Associates and Bachelor of Science degrees in Nursing from Indiana University Northwest. From there, Ana went on to receive her Masters of Science degree from Depaul University and her Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification from Ravenswood School of Anesthesia in Chicago, IL. She worked for many years at St. Mary Medical center in Gary and retired from Franciscan St. Margaret Hospital where she worked at both the Hammond and Dyer campuses. Ana was an intensely compassionate person who possessed the innate ability to deeply touch everyone she ever came in contact with. She was a loving mother who highly valued spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren. Ana was a passionate Chicago Bears fan who also enjoyed gardening. She is survived by her loving Husband of thirty-eight years; Moses Escalante, her two children; Michael Escalante and Theresa (Jon) Hinman, Her grandchildren; Amelia and Isaac Hinman, her Mother; Georgina C. (Guillermo) Martinez, her sister; Georgina Martinez and her brother; Johnny (Maria) Martinez, as well as several aunts and uncles and numerous nephews and nieces. She was also a sister-in-law who was very loved by the whole Escalante family. Ana will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be on Friday September 5, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Saturday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Church, 505 W. Ridge Road, Gary, IN. Interment will be at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
