John Unger Lanman, 88, of Munster, Indiana, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on August 4, 2014. He was born in Hammond, Indiana on April 13, 1926. He served in the Navy and graduated from Cornell University and Cornell University School of Medicine. John is survived by his wife, Nancy, of 64 years; his four children Jill Broderick (Thomas), Janet Noth (Ken), Elizabeth Oliver (John) and John Lanman, Jr.(Barbara) and by nine wonderful grandchildren: Hailey, Curran and Nat Broderick; Ryan and Scott Noth; John and Emily Oliver; and Connor and Kelsey Lanman.John practiced internal medicine in Munster for over 40 years. He loved being a doctor and volunteered at the McAuley Clinic until six weeks before his death. He enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity and was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. John was also a member of the Munster Lions Club for 50 years. He was a wonderful husband and father, and his family was the center of his life. He lived each day with courage and enthusiasm and always looked for the best in people. He laughed well and often. He left the world a better place than he found it. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 8955 Columbia Ave. Munster, IN.
