John R. Papesh, 89, of Hammond, IN peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014. John is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy (nee Mech); son, Philip (Renee) Papesh; daughter, Suzanne Briski; grandchildren, Erin (Jeff) Kaminski, Aimee and David Briski, Eric and Kyle Papesh; great grandchildren, Evelyn and Alayna Kaminski; many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Papesh; sister, Irene; brother, George; brothers-in-law, Chester Mech and Burt Stumpf; son-in-law, David Briski. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 PM with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN and on Wednesday from 9:30-10:00 AM at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas More Church, Munster, IN. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. John was born in Hammond, graduating from Hammond Clark. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. John worked at Standard Oil and Inland Steel. He was a member of the American Legion Allied Post 369. John enjoyed his retirement, traveling, reading, watching old movies and spending time with his family and grandchildren. A loving and patient husband, father and grandfather. John will be dearly missed.
