Shirley A. Wenig, 71, of Calumet City, IL passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 18, 2017. Beloved sister of Nancy (Paul) Laitar, Patricia (Late Jack) DeBoer, Robert (Diane) Gerlich and Timothy (Rita) Gerlich; Beloved aunt to nieces and nephews John, Laura, Nick, Ben, Zack, Adam, Nicole and Teddi; great nieces and nephews, Bob, Bill, Katie, Ellie and Zaylan; Beloved grandmother to Elliott and Rebecca Jansma. She was preceded in death by her husband, John and parents, Bob and Adele Gerlich. Shirley was an avid arts and crafts maker, who was most happy decorating her home for all the holidays. For every season she had just the right answer to make anyone who visited her home gasp in excitement. In the springtime, she would raise the most gorgeous flowers in the neighborhood. Her two most favoritethings in the world were the color blue and butterflies. They could be found in every nook and cranny of her home and life. She was a most attentive and caring person, who loved her family so much. It is impossible to estimate the loss that we will feel each day without her beautiful spirit. She will be missed by all of the people that knew and loved her and by her furry friends: Love Sugar, Shelton, Twixie, Mocha and Mufasa. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 1:00-7:00 pm with a prayer service at 2:00 pm at kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Ave. Munster, IN. In lieu of flowers, donations to Humane Indiana, humaneindiana.org in her memory would be appreciated.
