Sue A. Gajda, age 97, of Munster, IN formerly of East Chicago, IN passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Stella Gajda; devoted husband, Stanley Gajda; loving daughters, Roberta Frye and Janice Ciba; grandson, Robert Frye, Jr.; sisters, Rose Monczka, Helen Lesniak, Wanda Muszynski; and brothers, Henry Gajda and Edward Gayda. Sue is survived by grandchildren, Donna Frye Jevyak (Mike Gesling), and Christine Ciba McDonald (James); great grandchildren, Michael, Kristen and Joseph Jevyak, Kelsey Gesling, Connor and Katie McDonald; son-in-law, Thomas Ciba; sister, Lucille (late John) Gardner; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane (late Edward) Gayda. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018 DIRECTLY at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church 500 Northgate Dr. Dyer, IN with an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial offered by Reverend Charles Niblick, classmate of Roberta. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be on Saturday, at the church, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Mass. Sue was a tough, strong, hard working woman. As a child, she liked playing baseball, which earned her the nickname “Babe”, after Babe Ruth. She worked at Queen Anne Candy, Hammond Valve and Southern Electric. She enjoyed listening to polka music and spending time at her cottage at Saugany Lake. Sue was a member of St. Stanislaus Church, Post 369 Ladies Auxiliary and former Girl Scout leader. The family wishes to thank the Sisters at the Albertine Home and the staff at Hartsfield Village who provided the care for Sue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Sue’s name to St. Stanislaus Church or St. Maria Goretti Church.
