Virginia Lee Elizabeth Brenner Sohl Kicho, 99 years, 8 months, of Huntington Beach, CA, (formerly of Munster and Hammond, IN) passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016. She is survived by her only child, daughter, Karen (Charles) Sufana, grandson, Michael (Teresa) Sufana of Lakewood, CA, granddaughter, Julie, of Los Angeles, CA, great-grandson, John Steven Sufana, great-granddaughter, Abigail Reese Sufana, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Community United Methodist Church, 6652 Heil Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA, with Rev. Ginny Wheeler officiating. Friends are invited to share their Jinnie stories and memories. A memorial service will also be held later this spring at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 2201 Azalea Drive, Highland, IN.Virginia was born on May 26, 1916, in Lafayette, IN. She was the youngest of eight children born to Emilie and J. Michael Brenner. Virginia attended Ely Crouch Elementary School and Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lafayette, IN. Virginia received an Associate Degree in Business from Woodbury College in Hollywood, CA, where she was initiated into Gamma Tau Chapter of Alpha Iota Business Fraternity. She interned at the Leo Morrison Talent Agency in Hollywood, where the Three Stooges were managed. Virginia married Clifford (Kip) Sohl on May 12, 1941, who died in the service in 1945, during WWII. Virginia lived with the Sohl family until she married Steven Kicho on April 7, 1951. She worked as a secretary/agent for Chas. Kaufman Insurance Agency, executive secretary for the regional manager of the Fuller Brush Company, and as secretary in the Special Services Department at Purdue University Calumet. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ Church in Hammond and in Highland, where she taught Sunday School for 50+ years, and was the Treasurer of the Tabea Women's Guild. Virginia was a Lake County 4-H Leader for 30+ years. She liked playing cards, doing word puzzles, traveling, bowling, and reading, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Community United Methodist Church's Food Closet, 6652 Heil Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92647 or to the Food Bank at Greater Hammond Community Center, 824 Hoffman Street, Hammond, IN 46327.
